The Conference on Community Writing has always been a special place for folks working in food rhetorics and this past week was no exception. Below is a round-up of food-related research presented at CCW2025. Workshops:


“Designing Just Futures via Food Justice in Classroom, Community, and Research Projects” Workshop was facilitated by Brie Duloz, Eileen Schell, Stephanie Wade, Cori Brewster, & Abby Dubisar


“Participatory Crowdmapping in Detroit” was led by Alex B. Hill. 


Presentations & Panels:


“Redesigning Narratives with Coffee Shop Graffiti” was presented byLydia Allison (virtual presentation still available on the whova app)


“From Page to Place: Community Change through Garden-Based Curriculum” Roundtable was facilitated by Annie Knepler and Celine Fitzmaurice


“Eating to Heal: Using Design Thinking to Re-conceptualize a Community Writing Project for Health Justice” was presented by Sarah Moon 


“Connecting Writing and Critical Food Literacy in a Participatory Action Research Project” was presented by Renee Davy


“Raised Beds Raise Hopes: Designing and Cultivating Common Ground” was presented by Ruth Cary and Bruce Grant


“When Food Communities Divide: A Closer Look at Structural Racism within Digital Food Publishing” was presented by Kelli R. Gill 


Community Partners:


The Community Organization Networking event featured  Detroit Black Community Food Sovereignty Network / D-Town Farm, represented by Gi’Anna D. Cheairs, Piper Carter, Dr. shakara tyler 


For those who attended: Don’t forget the upcoming Fall 2026 Special Issue of Community Literacy Journal, edited by Joyce Meier, Chris Susak, and Elena Garcia. The special issue will highlight work presented at the conference and further developed for publication. Please see the call for proposals here. The deadline for proposal submissions is November 1, 2025.
